Analysis on the composition of automatic precision forging production line of connecting rod

Connecting rod belongs to long shaft precision forging, which is one of the most important parts in the engine, and the market demand is huge. The connecting rod not only requires high dimensional accuracy, but also has strict requirements for weight tolerance.

In addition, high-frequency alternating stress is generated in the connecting rod due to the high-speed operation of the engine. Therefore, higher requirements are put forward for the strength of the connecting rod, especially the fatigue strength. At the same time, the requirements for the surface quality of the connecting rod forgings are also very high. For a long time, automotive connecting rod forgings have been regarded as precision forgings that are difficult to forge.

In China, the traditional forging process of connecting rod adopts flame heating, air hammer upper anvil blank making, friction press or steam air hammer forging, trimming, punching and connecting skin, and finally thermal correction. Its disadvantages are as follows:

(1) Low forging automation ablity. All the main processes rely on manual operation, resulting in low productivity, large number of operators and high labor intensity, difficult to ensure the production efficiency, and the product quality is greatly affected by the operation level;

(2) The forging has low precision and poor consistency, and the surface of the forging is easy to decarburize, so it is difficult to meet the requirements of 488, Jetta and other high-precision connecting rod forgings for precision and quality:

(3) Dividing the trimming, stamping and thermal correction into several independent processes not only increases the number of operators and equipment, but also makes it difficult to ensure the center distance accuracy of the connecting rod;

(4) The blank making precision is low, the flash is large, and the material utilization rate is low;

(5) The energy consumption of heating furnace and forging equipment is high.

In order to meet the automation and quality requirements of high-precision connecting rod for the forging production line and shorten the gap between China and the international advanced level in forge field, we have developed the connecting rod precision forging process and successfully developed the automatic precision forging production line. Our company has added the forge scale descaling and cleaning equipment independently developed by our company in the forging automatic production line, which is mainly used for the forgings after blank making or after heating in the induction furnace, to clean the oxide scale layer on the forging surface due to heating, so as to effectively improve the quality of forgings. The forging scale removal equipment will become the general trend of the forging line in the future.
